About the Maker

Lamarra Haynes is the creative behind lamarra.a.maker. She is a maker of things. Her visual art, writing, and workshops focus on Black people because Blackness, is the most expansive identity — radiantly beautiful yet consistently maligned and disregarded. Through her work, she celebrates the vastness of Black identity, creating a space where Blackness is both seen and revered.

Lamarra finds inspiration in the mundanes of living, revolutionary movements like the Haitian Revolution, and the words of Black radical thinkers like Audre Lorde, bell hooks, George Jackson, Toni Morrison, and Frantz Fanon.

She infuses each piece vivid colors and intricate line work. She often extends the artwork onto the mat to create a complementary yet distinct element. This technique reflects the layered and interconnected nature of the stories she tells, transforming each piece into an immersive experience.
