Pink is my favorite color, bringing me joy and comfort.The pink-on-pink effect is intentionally overwhelming. While making the piece I was overwhelmed by the state of the world. The Crisis in the Congo was heavily on my mind. I channeled my grief, to create something beautiful, focusing on a color that provides me with deep comfort.

Haiti is the first free Black Republic and freedom model for the world. Haiti’s freedom struggle echoed by the blue and red in the flag, also influenced the flags of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. If you feel trepidatious about the colors red and blue (perhaps you live in the United States) remember Haiti, remember the Black revolutionary spirit. This piece is an ode to the Haitian Revolution.
